On Saturday February 6, 2010, 36 runners braved the colder than usual temperatures to race the 3rd annual Shediac 1 Mile road race . The race is run starting in front of the local Sobeys store and finishes at the Pascal Poirier Park .
Several club members attended the race and did very well. Winning the race in a time of 5:04 was Lee Wesselius of River Glade. He was followed by triathlete Cam MacKinnon of Dieppe in a time of 5:17 and capturing 3rd spot overall and top Masters was the clubs Paul Thibodeau in a time of 5:29.
Austin Roberts and Gabriel Coombs slugged it out for top honours in the boys 12-14 age category but it was the faster Roberts who came away with the win in 6:09 while Coombs hit the tape in 6:17.
Taking top honours in the overall womens category and top honours in her age category was the clubs very own Alexondra Kiely in a time of 6:33!
The next club member to cross the finish line was Riverviews Madison Dayton in a time of 7:19. She was shadowed by our own Hayley Touchburn who also won her age category in a great time of 7:29.
Winning the boys age 9-11 was ASEA's Dekker Kiely who crossed the line in 7:30. He was followed closely by Andre Touchburn who is ASEA's newest Masters competitor in 7:33
Francois Poirier of Grand Barachois made his presence known as he broke the tape in 7:42. Rounding off the club members were Grace Kiely who finished in a time of 8:14 and Vincent Wilson of Moncton aged 7 in a time of 11:33.
In all, there were 12 ASEA members running this years edition of the race. ASEA organizers would like to thank all who came and ran despite the frigid temperatures. This was truly a winter event!
