Nov 19, 2010 - ASEA Masters Category Grows

ASEA's Masters category has grown once more.  ASEA's Masters coach and athlete, Paul Thibodeau has recruited possibly the oldest track athlete to ever compete in the province and is a home grown talent.

Edna Thibodeau, age 85 yrs old, will be competing in the 85-89 female category .  Her first scheduled meet will be the Last Chance Meet to be held in Moncton at the CEPS facility on December 18th.

Edna Thibodeau will be competing in the Shot Put and 60M sprint events.  This will mark her very first appearance in any running or throwing competition ever.  The fiesty senior is chomping at the bit to compete with an eye on a couple of Canadian and World records in her age category currently held by Olga Kotelko of Canada and Nora Wedemo of Sweden.

ASEA would like to welcome Edna to the club and wish her many more years of competition in the Masters ranks.

Nov 10, 2010 - New England Masters XC Championships a success for Thibodeau

ASEA's Masters division was represented at Boston's famous Franklin Park on Sunday November 7, 2010 at the New England XC Masters and Open championships.

Paul Thibodeau, 47, ran in the 40+ category which included some of New Englands top masters runners.  Thibodeau negotiated the 8 km dirt/grass course in a season's best time of 30:20 to place 48th overall out of 112 other competitors.

Franklin Park was the site of the 1992 World XC Championships in which a then young Ethiopian runner by the name of Haille Gebrasilassie made his junior debut.  Gebrasilassie would later go onto run many world records in the 5000M and 10000M and the marathon and win 2 Olympic Gold Medals in 1996 and 2000 .

ASEA is also proud to welcome its 2 newest masters athletes ,  Carol Lepage 42 and Claude Degrace 56.  Both Carol and Claude bring a weatlh of experience to the club.  All three are planning to compete at next summers World Masters Track Championships in Sacremento California to be held from July 6-17, 2011.

Nov 1, 2010 - Youth Team NB Shines at Atlantic XC Champs!

The 2010 edition of the Atlantic XC Championships held in Antigonish Nova Scotia on Saturday October 30th saw New Brunswicks Youth Team take the overall title in that division.

Giving a huge helping hand was none other than ASEA's own Lee Wesselius who ran the 7.5 km course in 25:14 and Dylan Hebert 29:07.  The two athletes coached by Jules Comeau have been running well during the XC season with Wesselius gunning for Nationals in Guelph Ontario the 27th of November.

The course was a deceptively tough course with a muddy section and some slight uphill sections.

ASEA's Masters faired well in the Open category 7.5 km event  with newest ASEA member Carol Lepage finishing in 27:08 for 11th spot and Paul Thibodeau 29:10 for 18th spot.  Team NB Senior finished in 3rd position.  SJTC Alex Coffin was Team NB's top finisher with a time of 25:37 for 3rd overall.

In the Girls Pee Wee division,  ASEA's Haylee Touchburn and Grace Kiely helped Team NB capture their 1st place title as well.

A huge congratulations to all the athletes who took part .
