Toronto ON - On Sunday April 21st, 2013, Austin Roberts and Paul Thibodeau raced in the annual Toronto Yonge Street 10k road race which attracted 5600 runners of all abilities.
Roberts who is 15 yrs old, shattered his personal best time at the 10Km event clocking a fantastic time of 37:34.3 to finish 97th overall and 10th out of 74 in his age category of M 15-19.
Thibodeau who is 49 yrs old, broke his own 45-49 road 10 km personal record of 37:53 set in Portland Maine in 2009 by clocking a time of 37:39.0 . Thibodeau will officially be 50 on June 22nd of this year. Thibodeau also finished 99th ovrall and 9th out of 249 in the M 45-49 category.
Both had trained and prepared for this race since mid-December of 2012. The 18 week training program culminated with two huge personal bests and bodes well for the 2013 racing season ahead.
Roberts will be turning his attention to the shorter distances under the tuteledge of Jules Comeau as he prepares for the upcoming NBIAA's and Legion trials later this Spring.
Thibodeau will be running the Grand Digue 15km race on April 27th, a Run NB road racing fixture since 2006. Thibodeau last competed in the 15 km race in 2010 clocking a time of 56:43.
It is to note that both Roberts and Thibodeau both hold the distinction of winning the 3 km race held in conjunction with the 15 km race, Thibodeau winning the 2009 edition while Roberts won the 2010 edition.
